Not so bad... is it Dangerous plant manufacturing advanced batteries?
In December 2017, 4 km from Brest began the construction of a battery factory that angered many residents of the nearby settlements. "AiF" found out why part of the local population against the construction of the object.

Battery plant in the area "Airport" in the free economic zone "Brest" will be built in 2018. Start of construction caused the discontent of the inhabitants of the surrounding villages. The villagers learned about the construction of the plant from the media and asked why the authorities did not examine their opinions on the matter. Residents of the Brest region insist that they knew nothing. The announcement of the meeting was published in the local newspaper, the circulation of which is now 3,400 copies, and on the website of the Executive Committee. Information can learn, not all.
At the end of January 2018, more than several thousand people joined a collective appeal against the construction of the plant. People believe that the production of batteries near settlements could threaten human health due to the emission of harmful substances, in particular lead. In addition, people have written statements to the court and Prosecutor's office with the requirement to suspend construction of the facility and to check its compliance with environmental regulations.
NO HARM
As has told "AIF" scientific Secretary of the Center for strategic analysis and strategic research of NAS of Belarus, candidate of technical Sciences, associate Professor Oleg Bely, he became acquainted with the report on the assessment of environmental impacts under construction near Brest battery factory and talked with experts from the Ministry of environment.
According to him, the main emission of the enterprise is lead. On the program "Ecologist" is the dispersion of substances in the atmosphere that will come out through the tube. Oleg White agrees that to completely clean the air from harmful substances is very difficult, but the construction of the plant will install a highly efficient cleaning system — 99,9%.
— Designed in a sanitary-protective zone of the plant in 500 m the level of lead is 0.02 shares of maximum permissible concentration. Based on these documents that I've reviewed outside of this zone, projected the enterprise of harmful effects on the environment and does not have — says the candidate of technical Sciences.
Products that contain lead in one form or another, is widely used in daily life. It's computers, cars, paint, various appliances. According to him, construction of the plant will highlight the atmosphere 4.6 tons of emissions per year. Exceeding the permissible limits, according to the documents, not on any of the types of substances. This lead will be supplied not more than 3 kg per year. In this the context of the Oleg White believes that to live or work near highways sometimes more dangerous than near a modern plant.
MONITORING
According to the legislation of the plant after commissioning will be included in the national monitoring system with monitoring. In the lead — once a month for oxidized lignite through extraction hydrocarbons — once a year. In addition, every six months will test the water. Monitoring data will be published in the Gazette of the Ministry.
