Zubr Energy LLC is testing a section for forming traction batteries with electrolyte circulation

At the current stage of development of energy technologies, traction batteries play a key role in various industries, including transport and industry. Zubr Energy LLC, one of the leaders in the production of starter and industrial batteries, is implementing a project to produce 2V cells for PzS traction batteries, introducing innovative production technologies, such as electrolyte circulation during the formation process.

PzS traction batteries belong to the category of low-maintenance (open type) devices with armored positive plates and are used for electric forklifts and stackers. Zubr Energy LLC plans to provide a full cycle of traction batteries production using PzS technology in the Republic of Belarus.

The production facilities of Zubr Energy LLC have already installed and are testing lines for assembling and forming 2V cells. The formation process is carried out on an automatic line with an electrolyte circulation system, which improves the quality and service life of traction batteries.

During the formation of 2V cells, such parameters as the density, level and temperature of the electrolyte, as well as current parameters are automatically controlled, which minimizes risks and eliminates the influence of the human factor.

Automated systems provide full control over the cell formation process. After filling the electrolyte, the battery charging procedure begins, during which the final formation of the mechanical structure and chemical composition of the positive and negative electrodes occurs. The process is controlled through specialized software, which significantly increases the efficiency and reliability of operation.

The formation process includes several key stages:

1. Filling the cells with electrolyte with a density of 1.09-1.1 g / cm³, which creates optimal conditions for the transition of sulfate ion from the paste to the electrolyte.

2. Supplying direct current in the range from 100 to 500 A, with a gradual increase in current depending on the progress in the active mass and a decrease in the internal resistance of the cell.

3. Electrolyte temperature control within 45-55ºС. A special mechanism allows for prompt response to temperature changes, opening and closing the supply of cooled electrolyte as needed.

4. Electrolyte density correction, carried out through automatic addition of demineralized water using an electronic densimeter to maintain a given density.

After completion of the formation process, switching occurs from the formation electrolyte to the working one with a density of 1.27±0.01 g/cm³, which additionally stabilizes the operation of the traction battery during its operation.

Using an automatic line with electrolyte circulation for the formation of 2V cells allows for a 4-fold reduction in the formation time of traction batteries compared to traditional air cooling and a 2-fold reduction in the time compared to water cooling, which significantly increases the productivity of the enterprise.
