Modeling of passive coupling of blocks of a hybrid electricity storage system

In the latest issue of the magazine “Energy. Izv. higher uch. establishments and energy associations of the CIS" (No. 3, pp. 209-217, 2024) an article was published by the head of the Project for the Development of SNE of the company 1AK-GROUP, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Kirill Dobrego "Modeling of passive coupling of blocks of a hybrid electricity storage system"

In connection with the development of electric transport and the growth of «green» energy, electrical energy storage systems are increasingly being used in the world. The battery market has grown at 20-30% in the last decade. One of the ways to increase the efficiency of an electricity storage device is its hybridization, i. e. use of heterogeneous battery packs.

The article examines the features of passive coupling of lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries in a hybrid energy storage device. The operating modes of a hybrid electricity storage system with a simple parallel connection, as well as with switching blocks based on a threshold load current value, were simulated.

It is shown that in order to equalize the rate of discharge of the main lead and additional lithium blocks, it is necessary to coordinate the following parameters: the capacity of energy storage systems, the degree of hybridization, the type of load and the electrical parameters of the batteries. Estimates have been made of the economic efficiency of hybrid energy storage systems at various switching thresholds of the lithium-ion unit and for various electricity consumers: an electric forklift, a 30-apartment residential building and a 300-apartment residential complex.

The data obtained are required when designing hybrid energy storage systems for special electric vehicles, small power systems with solar and wind power plants.

Scientific and practical developments are carried out within the framework of the scientific and technical competence center 1AK-GROUP. The 1AK-GROUP Scientific and Technical Competence Center unites:
· engineering and technical knowledge of 1AK-GROUP experts in the field of design and production of batteries, energy storage systems
· existing material base of the holding’s battery sector: laboratories, testing areas
· scientific and technical developments, know-how
· interaction with leading scientific organizations of the country
· participation in the training of engineering personnel for the emerging Belarusian industry of energy storage systems.

One of the goals of the scientific and technical competence center 1AK-GROUP is to unite the efforts of all market participants — domestic manufacturers of components for energy storage systems along the entire value chain, consumers, the scientific community, for the development of the knowledge-intensive industry of energy storage systems in the Republic of Belarus.

The 1AK-GROUP Scientific and Technical Center solves the problems of methodological support for the implementation of energy storage systems in industry, housing and communal services, agriculture, as well as issues of innovation in diagnostics and intelligent control of the operation of energy storage systems.
