Millions of tons of lead products are produced throughout the world, and there are thousands of technologies that use lead. Today it is impossible to imagine a car without a battery and some types of bearings based on lead technologies.

And what shall we do with the batteries that have served their time, because these waste contain lead and electrolyte?

Belinvesttorg-Splav LLC is the only company in the Republic of Belarus that processes lead-containing and tin-containing  waste, and produces high-grade LEAD and LEAD ALLOYS with the use of environmentally safe technology for mechanical and metallurgical processing.

The production activities of Belinvesttorg-Splav LLC help to solve two problems at once:
1. Production of high-grade lead and lead alloys with a purity of up to 99.8%.

2. Production of components for batteries


The same processing technology is used in many of the world’s leading manufactures. In Europe there are approximately 26 similar production facilities, including in such countries as Italy, Germany, Spain, etc. Operational experience of similar manufacturing facilities in Europe has proven their high degree of safety for the employees, the population and the environment.
Belinvesttorg-Splav LLC is included in the national environmental monitoring system of the Republic of Belarus. Monitoring is carried out by accredited laboratories, providing control over the state of air and land (soils).


Soil Monitoring

The main decisions affecting environmental security were laid at the design stage of Belinvesttorg-Splav LLC production facility. In 2012, specialists evaluated the existing and predicted level of soil contamination with heavy metals in the industrial zone of the city of Beloozyorsk. Soil sampling and measurement was carried out by accredited testing laboratories.

In the course of making a forecast, the planning horizon of up to 2052 was chosen. According to the data obtained, the content of lead and other heavy metals in the twenty-centimetre layer of soil within the sanitary protection zone of the enterprise and the adjacent territory will be considerably lower the levels of maximum permissible concentration over the 40-year forecast period.

The enterprise carries out local monitoring of land (soils). Monitoring is carried out at three test sites in the area where potential sources of harmful impacts on land are located (territory of the organization). The observation parameters are the concentrations (content) in the soil of: cadmium, copper, nickel, lead, chromium, zinc, mercury.

The Institute of Environmental Management of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus conducted a survey of the territory of possible sources of soil contamination both on the territory of the enterprise and in the sanitary protection zone (SPZ) of Belinvesttorg-Splav LLC.

In the sanitary protection zone of Belinvesttorg-Splav LLC, laboratory production monitoring of lead content in soil is carried out at three test sites.

Laboratory research is carried out by the Institute of Environmental Management of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Republican Center for Analytical Control in the field of environmental protection and is an independent study.

For the entire period of monitoring on the territory of the enterprise and production laboratory control in the sanitary protection zone of Belinvesttorg-Splav LLC, the concentrations of pollutants do not exceed the standardized values of the indicators established by technical regulations.

Atmospheric Air

To ensure environmental safety, sources of air emissions are equipped with a modern system of aspiration of process gases. The system for the aspiration and purification of dust and gas emissions, which is applied at Belinvesttorg-Splav LLC production facility, was manufactured by BJ-Industries (France) and Intensiv-Filter (Germany). The system ensures the removal and purification of flue gases from the working space of the furnace, from the shelter of the rotary furnace, from refining tanks.

The start and the operation of the rotary furnace is not possible without the operation of gas cleaning units. That is, the aspiration system is programmed to start with the technological equipment.


Emissions of pollutants are controlled by an automatic control system (ACS) installed on the chimney. The control is carried out and the results are monitored every minute. 

The ACS is serviced by Simatek Energy LLC and Energopromis LLC; instrumentation is validated and calibrated by Belarusian State Institute of Metrology Republican Unitary Enterprise.

Quarterly, Ecoventnaladka LLC conducts instrumental laboratory monitoring of pollutant emissions into the atmospheric air and also checks the efficiency of gas treatment plants every six months.

The Pinsk Interdistrict Laboratory of Analytical Control carries out instrumental measurements of emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air for local monitoring, as well as within the framework of fulfilling the special conditions for emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air established in the comprehensive environmental permit.

Industrial laboratory monitoring of the content of pollutants in the atmospheric air of the sanitary protection zone of the enterprise has been organized. Instrumental measurements are carried out by the Brest Regional Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health.

Water

A unified system of utility and drinking, industrial and fire-fighting water supply is applied at the enterprise. The source of water supply is the water pipeline of Berezovskaya GRES.

Flow meters of the following brands are applied for the accounting of water intake: Powogas MWN-65, Powogas JS-2,5 and Sensus Е-Т Q,4 Т50. The accounting of water consumption for the needs of the enterprise is carried out in accordance with the indications of installed flow meters.

The utility and sanitary effluents are transferred to the wastewater disposal system of Berezovskaya GRES via sewerage networks.

Storm water from the production site is transferred to the storm water sewerage system with the help of rainwater receivers and, having passed through the treatment facilities, is diverted to a storage pond (with waterproof insulation). Treated water is pumped into special cubitainers and later used in the complex battery dismantling line and in the circulating cooling systems of production equipment.


Purified water is used for watering hard surfaces and green areas.

Waste

As a result of the technological process for the production of lead and alloys (metallurgy), «lead ash (lead sludge)» waste of class 3 hazard with the code of 3121400 is produced. This waste:

1. Transferred under the agreement for the disposal of ukpp Promotkhody, disposal of industrial waste "Vishnevka"


2. Today, a number of research institutes and organizations are working to develop technologies and equipment for the use of ash for the production of materials for construction.


All waste at Belinvesttorg-Splav LLC is divided by type, in accordance with the “Classifier of waste” generated in the Republic of Belarus and hazard classes, and is subject to mandatory collection and accounting of generation, storage, use, transfer for processing to specialized enterprises and transfer of production waste to burial sites.

Belinvesttorg-Splav LLC has a special permit (license) for the right to carry out activities related to the impact on the environment (in terms of the use of waste of the 1st - 3rd hazard classes, neutralization) No. 33140/2020.

An enterprise can transfer waste to landfills only if it has a comprehensive environmental permit obtained from the Brest Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. Industrial waste for which there are no effective processing technologies is subject to disposal.
